State Govt mulls setting up industrial estates in 3 districts

Imphal, February 03 2015:
The Government of Manipur is planning to set up three industrial estates in the hill districts of Churachandpur, Chandel and Ukhrul with an objective to provide required facilities to entrepreneurs of the State.
This was stated by Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam at the inaugural function of a national conference on Tourism and Entrepreneurship organized by Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, School of Social Science of Manipur University at the Court Hall of the university on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest, Minister Govindas stressed on the need to develop Tourism Sector which was likely to boost financial status of the State.
Emphasizing on need to establish more small scale industries in the State, the minister pointed out that there were many educated unemployed youth in the State.
It is high time to focus on "self-employment" as it will be impossible for the government to provide white collar jobs to all the unemployed people.
The government is also planning to set up an industrial estate in Thoubal district.
A target has been set to complete its construction within the next Financial Year, the Minister added.
On the State's potential to become a favorite destination for tourists, the minister said several project proposals had been submitted to Ministry of Tourism.
He also pointed out that the State incurred huge loss whenever an economic blockade is imposed along the highways and urged the people to refrain from such unwarranted acts.
MU Registrar Prof N Lokendro who was present on the occasion, stated that the tourism sector could provide jobs to the unemployed.
He stressed on making efforts to showcase the state's rich art and culture and making Manipur a tourist destination.
Managing Director of Babina Diagnostic Centre Dr Th Dhabali; Assisant General Manager of Tourism Finance Corporation of India A Balaji and Co-coordinator of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Prof Ch Ibohal were also present during the programme.
A technical session chaired by Economist Prof N Mohendro was also conducted during the conference.
