National conference on tourism held

A one-day National conference on Tourism and Entrepreneurship: Future Development organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Develop-ment, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India was held today at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Chairman of Babina Group Dr Th Dhabali; Registrar of MU Prof N Lokendra; Asst Gen Manager, Tourism Finance Corporation of India Ltd, New Delhi; A Balaji, Dean, School of Social Sciences; Prof E Bijoykumar and Prof Ch Ibohal Meitei of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, MU attended the programme as the chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Dhabali said that Manipur is a State which has many components of tourism.
However, the State lags behind other counterparts in the field of tourism.
Other than the mountains, there is no other tourists attraction in Sikkim.
But the number of tourists visiting Sikkim is high, Dr Dhabali cited.
Pointing out that potential tourists are preoccupied with their safety concerns in visiting the State, he further said that not many tourists would like to visit the State due to frequent bandhs and blockades.
Eminent economist Prof N Mohendro Singh chaired the first technical session which was held on the topic 'changing dimensions of tourism'.
Prof GP Prasain of Commerce Dept co-chaired the session.
The 2nd session was chaired and co-chaired by Prof Memcha Loitongbam, Director, MIMS, MU and Prof L Sachikumar Sharma, Dept of Management, Mizoram University respectively.
Many resource persons presented papers during the sessions.
Prof E Bijoykumar Singh moderated the panel discussion on Tourism & Entrepreneurship: Way Forward.
Chief guest of the programme Govindas Konthoujam said Manipur has tourism potential.
The problem of unemployment can also be minimised if not solved when tourism is developed in the State.
He also underlined that blockade and bandh culture is an impediment to the growth of tourism in the State.
