Police assaults RTI activist

An RTI activist who went to get the reports of the RTI case filed at the office of Horticulture and Soil Conservation at Sanjenthong was reportedly beaten up by security personnel deployed in the office.
The RTI activist has been identified as Md Riyaj Khan, s/o Md Najmuddin of Lilong Leihao Makhong under Thoubal district.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Md Riyaj Khan informed that he had filed an RTI to the Horticulture and Soil Conservation at Sanjenthong on November 12, 2012 .
However till today, the Department has not given any response.
He recalled that a few days back the Department had asked him to submit his ration card and as such he went to the office yesterday.
However, the staff at the reception refused to receive the ration card and asked him to meet the higher authority.
He, along with the receptionist, while on their way to meet the officers, was stopped by a security guard who was deployed in the office and beat him up without any reason.
The staffs and other security personnel did not even tried to stop the security guard from beating him.
He also stated that he would approach the Home Minister and other concerned authorities for taking up necessary action against the security guard.
