Imphal, January 08 2013:
The Naga Women Union (NWU) has demanded from the state government to take up stern action against the police officer in-charge of Khoupum police station for failing his due responsibility by not filing charge sheet against the accused even after three months in connection with the rape incident of four girls on October 5 last year in Khoupum area of Tamenglong district.
NWU pointed out that in case of the Delhi gang rape case, the charge sheet was done in 18 days.
Latjanthai Kamei was arrested and jailed in Sajiwa Jail, Imphal for kidnapping, gang-raping and attempted-murder of four minor school girls of Khoupum Don Bosco School on 5 October last year.
Meanwhile, the NWU strongly condemned the various crimes and violence against 'humanity' .
"Rape cases, torture incidents and killings have become almost a daily occurrence in our society which have shocked and appalled us all.
NWU denounces the merciless killing of two innocent hunters of Kongkan village area under Kamjong sub-division of Ukhrul district by the UNLF on December 28, the brutal killing of Laishram Ibohanbi by the miscreants at Hatta village near Finch Corner in Ukhrul district on December 29, the abduction of Shankarlal Swamy (59) from Kangla in the heart of Imphal and the subsequent murder on January 3 by the three miscreants including two IRB personnel and one driver by profession and Gongsingam Dangmei (18 years) former Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadre s/o Gonbi Dangmei of Longmai (Noney) Bazar who was killed in the fake encounter by the 10th Assam Rifles in the evening of December 30 at Sangji village," the NWU said today.
NWU also vehemently condemned the beastly act of rape of a minor girl, 4 years and two months by one Soren Raju, an Adivasi from Jharkhand who is a JCB driver working for a local contractor along Maram-Peren road near Tamphung village on December 25 evening on the pretext of taking her for a walk.
It also condemned the rape of a young housewife who was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Thoubal district locality on December 28 and the alleged victimization of the victim by the police remanding her in the police custody.
"All these unfortunate happenings are attacking the very fabric of our society.
Apart from the failure of parents in parenting of their children which have led to worse situation of moral degradation, the present state government has also miserably failed to maintain law and order that is a matter of great concern now," the NWU stated.
NWU extends its solidarity to all the victims' families of these heinous crimes and demands to deliver fair justice to the victims' families.
