Imphal, January 08 2013:
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has stated that maximum effort is being put in to keep Imphal-Jiribam highway from milestone zero to 3.22 Kms (Waheng Leikai to Oriental College Gate) in good riding condition by next month.
Speaking to media persons in his office chamber this afternoon, Ratankumar said that the said portion of the highway is under PWD while the rest of the highway is managed by BRO.
In view of the BCIM car rally which would pass through the highway and go up to China through Myanmar, PWD has been working hard to keep the section under its care in good riding condition.
For Imphal-Moreh highway, there is little need for repairing.
Necessary process of tender has been already held for construction of 98 Kms long Tupul-Kasom Khullen road with monetary assistance from Asian Development Bank.
As for construction/development of 89.5 Kms long Bishnupur-Nungba road (Tongjei Maril) under NEC, due sanction has been made and necessary process of inviting tender is on, said the PWD Minister.
Development work is also going on on 70 Kms long Kangpokpi-Tamei road under NEC.
To a query, Dr Ratankumar said that the department has been enduring several difficulties in the process to repair Wahengbam Leikai to Tera section of Imphal-Jiribam highway.
In spite of the difficulties, the department has been exerting to do all it can.
The Minister also appealed to people of the area not to block the road in protest.
