Diagnostic machine impounded

An ultra sound machine of a private clinic opened at Bishnupur district headquarters has been impounded today by an inspection team of Family Welfare Department.
As part of its ongoing drive to check female foeticide and determination of sex of unborn child, the team comprising of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique Cell and State Appropriate Authority personnel today raided private clinics at Nambol Bazar and Bishnupur district headquarters to authenticate whether or not clinics in these places conform to norms of Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique Act 1994 .
At Bishnupur district headquarters, the team detected two clinics suspected to be defying norms of registration under the said Act and promptly impounded one of them while owner of the second clinic pleaded that the ultrasound machine had ceased operation awaiting due registration process.
At Nambol Bazar too the inspection team led by Additional Director of Family Welfare Department Dr K Rajo spotted two private clinics but found that ultra-sound machines installed there were yet to be operationalised.
The other team members included Dr Th Arunkumar of Pre Natal Diagnostic Technique and State Appropriate Authority's member L Sumatibala and member advocate N Bino.
