RTI activist assaulted

An RTI activist from Thoubal was assaulted by security personnel who were deployed at the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation here yesterday.
A cultivator, Rihaz Khan s/o Md Nazamuddin of Lilong Leihaokhong in Thoubal district was assaulted by security personnel yesterday while going to enquire about the RTI application which he had submitted to the Horticulture and Soil Conservation office on November 10 last year.
He was seeking information regarding implementation of several schemes and projects undertaken by the Horticulture and SC department.
Talking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Rihaz Khan said he was asked to submit a BPL ration card to the office by the Additional Director yesterday.
Security personnel deployed in the H&SC complex assailed him when he asked them the counter which deals with the submission of the BPL ration card.
At the same time, Rihaz registered strong denouncement over the act of the security forces in assaulting a farmer who is attempting to access information to the concerned office.
He also decried the alleged denial of information by the concerned office.
