By-election for vacant assembly seats within November 24: CEO

By-election for the vacant assembly seats of the State is expected to be held by November 24 next, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Thursday.
Briefing the media at his office in the State Secretariat, CEO O Nabakishore said filling up of the vacant seats of legislators within six months is mandatory under the Representation of People Act, 1951 .
He said steps will be taken up to hold by-election for the vacant assembly seats within November 24.MLAs O Lukhoi of Wangoi constituency, Th Biswajit of Thongju constituency and Kh Joykishan of Thangmeiband constituency were disqualified by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on May 27 this year.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the partner agency and organizations under Systematic Voter Education & Electoral Participation Programme was held at the CEO office.
After the meeting, Nabakishore said date for the special summary revision of the State's Electoral Roll has been fixed.
Draft publication of the Electoral Roll will be published on October 1 next.
Objection and claims on the Electoral Roll can be submitted from October 1 to 30, he informed.
Verification for Photo Electoral Roll will be done from October 3 to 17 and the Electoral Roll final publication will be done on January 11, 2016, he said.
Those who have attained 18 years of age can register themselves in the Electoral Roll in the concerned SDO offices, the CEO added.
