Tangkhuls commemorate 70 years of Suisa's 'New Political Organization'

The Suisa Trust, Ukhrul in association with Tangkhul civil society organizations today organized the 70th anniversary of New Political Organization formed by late Rungsung Suisa at UBC Church Kamphasom, Ukhrul.
Giving the key note address, former personal secretary to R Suisa, AC Ngasathing deliberated on the formation of the new political movement in Tangkhul area under the leadership of R Suisa.
Suisa had a political vision and floated a proposal for the North Eastern States-"British Trust Territory," said AC Ngasathing.
However majority of the people rejected the proposal.
But after the British left India, the whole North East States were merged in the Indian Union.
AC Ngasathing further said that R Suisa organized and formed a new political organization in 1946 at Hunphun/Ukhrul leingapha.
It was attended by Tangkhul village headmen, public leaders and intellectuals.
Three resolutions were adopted which included "Nagas should unite and live under one administration," "To uphold our sovereign rights to self rule." Moreover a Tangkhul sub-committee was constituted and a proposal was floated for every Tangkhul household to contribute/ pay 50 paise to the organization, which was to be mandatory.
The former personal secretary of the late Suisa recalled that Nagas' political vision for self determination had gained momentum at Nagaland by that time and talked about the Naga Club, the Naga National Council, Naga National League.
All these developments at that point of time led to the rejection of the proposals put forth by Suisa, added Ngasathing.
Despite the rejection, he did not lose heart and worked for the common political aspirations of the Nagas, said Ngasathing.
Though Nagas were scattered in India and Myanmar, Suisa worked for integration of Nagas under one single administration, he said and recalled how the Manipur Naga Council was formed which later merged with the NNC.
During the programme, Dr Yaronsho Ngalung ADC Chairman of Ukhrul, TNL president Weapon Zimik exhorted the gathering to understand and work for the aspirations of Suisa.
Over three hundred people including ADC members, Pastors, women leaders, intellectuals, headmen and students attended the programme.
