Imphal, September 24 2015:
A public discussion on the steps that must be taken up by people to end the political conflict between Manipur and the Indian Union was held today at Heingang Mayai Leikai, Thangapat Mapal under the aegis of the Coalition for Indigenous Rights Campaign (CIRCA) .
The gathering opposed the Manipur Merger Agreement of 1949.Members of the local club and meira paibi including ward member Radhamani and Ramodini attended the discussion where spokesperson of CIRCA Ningthouja Lancha was the resource person.
He stated that the public discussion was held as part of the month long protest against the Manipur Merger Agreement of 1949 signed between the then King Bodhachandra of the State and the Indian Union.
The interaction programme held in different parts of the State will sensitize public on various issues, currently faced by the State.
Such discussions will bring up comments and suggestions from representatives of various areas as to how 'we should proceed forward to bring a solution to the political conflict between India and Manipur', he added.
Further he said that the Merger Agreement can never be termed as an agreement as none of the assurance given by India has been fulfilled.
The people of Manipur have been suppressed for 65 years and the Constitutional Act of Manipur is so far not recognized.
Such movement is not a separatist movement but a demand for a special constitutional and political status of Manipur.
