Imphal, May 15 2015 :
Taking strong exception to the State Government's failure to fulfil its own promises, the JAC Against Anti-Social Activities to Gwaltabi Village by Thawai Villagers has called an indefinite bandh on Imphal-Ukhrul road with effect from 5 am tomorrow (May 16) .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this evening JAC convenor Ph Rajesh said that following the April 30 outrage, an understanding was arrived at a joint meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray, MLA Ksh Biren, MLA Victor Keishing and leaders of Thawai village on May 3 .
After the Thawai village chief tendered an apology, the Chief Minister, the Deputy Speaker and the two MLAs assured to provide adequate assistance by May 15 to Gwaltabi villagers whose houses and other standing properties were damaged.
But the JAC has been compelled to block the Imphal-Moreh road as the Government failed to fulfil its own promises till date, Rajesh said.
The State Government should be held accountable if any untoward incident breaks out during the bandh, Rajesh added.
