Imphal, July 12 2021:
MSPDCL Engaged Employees' Union has appealed to authority concerned to release the pending salaries for four months of Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) employees, who have been carrying out their duties round the clock irrespective of the Covid-19 pandemic and hostile weather condition.
In a statement, the Union said that the JTA employees are at the forefront of ensuring regular power supply to the people by working day and night despite being paid meagre salary.
However, they are facing immense hardships as their salaries are not paid for the past four months and they are now not in a position to afford transportation fares to carry out their duties.
As a result, they will be forced to cease work, the Union said.
It is unfortunate that the government is ignoring the hardships faced by the families of the JTA employees who are working as frontline worker during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
With the rising prices of essential commodities, Centre had increased variable dearness allowance (VDA) for its employees by 100 per cent but MSPDCL employees are not getting the benefits till date, the statement said, while drawing attention of the government to look into and address their plight.
The statement further appealed to the general public not to blame the JAT employees if they stopped functioning due to their extreme situation.
The Union knows that electricity is vital in the fight against the pandemic but they cannot continue to work if they can no longer afford transport fuel to go to work due to pending salary amid the pandemic, it said.
