Women body demands suspension of cop

Imphal, June 12 2015 :
Singjamei Apunba Lup, a women's organization, has alleged that one Sub-Inspector of Singjamei Police Station beat up an 'innocent' local of Singjamei Thongam Leikai during a combing operation early
on Friday.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Safi allegedly whipped one Shougrakpam Sanjoy (30) with cable wires and beat up with sticks at the police station.
Bruise marks were found on his body.
The women's body has condemned the incident and demanded immediate suspension of the cop.
The search was started at 4 am by a combined team of Imphal West Police and Singjamei Police commandos.
The police called out all persons between the ages 18 and 60.Nearly 300 people including women were paraded and verified by the police during the search.
Five persons including Sanjoy were pulled up by the police for further verification.
Sanjoy is stated to be under medication as he has a mental health problem.
Sanjoy told reporters that he was beaten up by the cop.
He said that when he along with the other four persons arrived at the police station he was complaining that people were being harassed by security forces by conducting combing operations.
Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup leader Sumati condemned the incident and demanded immediate suspension of Sub-Inspector Safi.
She said the women's body will launch agitation if the demand is not met by the Government at the earliest.
