CM discusses road project plans with works minister

Chief Minister N Biren has discussed plans for road projects for Imphal city to be taken up during the first 100 days of his second term along with works minister K Govindas at the CM's office chamber on Monday.
During the meeting, the CM reportedly asked the minister as well as engineers concerned to complete road projects in Imphal city and keep the state capital clean within 100 days.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Govindas informed that he had talked with NHIDCL officials and PWD chief engineer on the matter.
He had also discussed the plan of widening Mayai Lambi and the department will seek fund from Asian Infrastructural Investment Bank or other funding agen cies for the project if the state government faces fund constraint.
He also stressed the need for widening the road to a four-lane highway.
NHIDCL had reportedly been asked to keep in place machineries and equipment for swift repairing of national highways in times of natural calamities.
Govindas also said that preparations have been made for detour options during NH bandhs or blockades.
The government is also in the process of resolving the indefinite bandh called by SAPO, he added.
Govindas, who is also hold ing the portfolio of youth affairs and sports, further said that the government will also put special focus on improving sports infrastructure and promoting sports-persons considering the potential of the state in the field.
The existing sports policy, which was framed in 2006, will be revised soon to suit the present and future scenario.
He also emphasised on amending the youth policy in order to align it with the war on drugs mission to save the youth of the state from the increasing drug menace.
The government had started crackdown on illegal rehabilitation centres, he said and added that he had discussed with the chief minister for providing free rehabilitation service to BPL families.
Meanwhile, education and RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand has assumed his office at Old Secretariat from Monday.
