CM flags off Independence Day bike rally

Imphal, August 14 2022: Chief Minister N Biren flagged off two Motor Bike Rallies in celebration of 75 years of Independence from Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal to Moirang and Mao on Sunday.

Speaking prior to the flag-off ceremony, CM Biren welcomed the riders from different rider groups participating in the rally for Mao and exhort -ed them to spread the message of India's Independence and the people's responsibility towards building unity in the country.

While welcoming the second group of riders participating in the Imphal-Moirang (INA) rally, the CM pointed out that the nation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating the country's 75 years of Independence as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and remembering the sacrifices of our people and leaders in their effort to achieve independence.

Further reminding the gathering of the sacrifices and contributions made by the many leaders and public in the fight against British for India's Independence, the Chief Minister called on all to help in building a strong and united India.

In his address, DGP P Doungel said that whatever we do today becomes an example for unity as well as showing the power of youth.

The power of youth that is channelized in the correct manner and used in a way will be beneficial for the state as well as our community, he added.

CM Biren led the second rally on a motorbike, while Forest and Environment minister Thongam Biswajit Singh led riders from altogether 22 riders groups in the rally to Mao.

Meanwhile, Textiles, Commerce & Industry minister Nemcha Kipgen along with minister for Social Welfare Heikham Dingo Singh received bikers at Mao.

MLAs Losii Dikho, K Robindro Singh and Kh Loken Singh were also present during the reception.

The ministerial team also hoisted the National Flag at Kangpokpi town, Senapati Bazar and Mao.

The rallies are organised by the Home Department in celebration of the 75 years of India's Independence as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The flagging off ceremony was also attended by ministers, MLAs, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, high ranking police officials, among others.

Mementos were also distributed to the rider groups.

Manipur will join the country-wide celebration of 75 years of India's Independence on Monday with the ceremonial function to be held at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles Parade Ground at 9:30 am where chief minister N Biren Singh will hoist the Tricolour.

Different march past contingents from Police and students will take part in the celebration parade while medals/prizes/awards for distinguished service will be distributed by the chief guest.

Four cultural troupes under the Art & Cultural Department will also perform during the function.

After the ceremonial function, floral tributes will be paid at the memorial park of Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu at Keisampat and Mantripukhri respectively.

The main celebration programme will continue at Hapta Kangjeibung from 11:30 am where floral tributes to freedom fighters will also be offered.

The celebration will also feature cultural performances by different dance troupes including the Rhythms of Manipur.

Medallists of the Commonwealth Games, 2022 will also be honoured during the celebration.

On the eve of the Independence Day celebration, Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren Singh and ministers extended their warm greetings to the people of Manipur.

In his message, Governor Ganesan said that every year since 1947, the people of India have been celebrating August IS as Independence Day remembering and paying homage to the sacrifices of the leaders and millions of their followers of the long freedom struggle towards the goal of attaining freedom.

He said that during the last more than seven decades after independence, India has made great strides in all fields and is targeting to be in the comity of leading nations of the world.

"Though major progress has been made in most of the socio-economic development areas all over the country, challenges still remain to be tackled," said the Governor while urging all the citizens to work together and bring emotional integrity and ensure that every part of the country is developed equally.

While sharing his view, chief minister N Biren said in his message described as a moment of immense pride and happiness to be an Indian 'as our county will complete its 75 years of Independence on August 15'.Pointing out that for over one year, the glorious history of our people, culture and achievements are being celebrated and commemorated across the country under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM appealed to the public to rededicate to the ideals of democracy and service to the nation and also harness the potential of being one of the youngest populations in the world to achieve the dream of self-reliance in every sector.

Meanwhile, in separate releases, ministers Th Biswajit Singh, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Awangbow Newmai and Nemcha Kipgen called upon the people of Manipur to salute and take inspirations from the freedom fighters and the valiant soldiers for their courage, bravery and sacrifice for the cause of the freedom of the country.

The ministers also conveyed their warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Independence Day of India.
