Imphal, August 18 2026:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) and the Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) have pledged full support to the ongoing people's movement being spearheaded by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) for updating the NRC before initiating any census exercise.
A press release issued by the WMC Manipur State Unit said that the Government's attempt to carry out census operations forcibly by sidelining the people's demand for updating the NRC first is only inviting more unrest in the State.
Protecting Manipur and its interest is not the sole responsibility of the people.
It is also a primary responsibility of the Government of Manipur, it said.
The WMC has urged the BJP-led Government to listen to the people's voice and initiate the due process of updating the NRC.
Speaking to media persons in front of the relief camp opened by TAKDO for IDPs at Khoyathong today, TAKDO general secretary Loitongbam Sundari said that the census exercise should be deferred until the NRC is updated and all IDPs are resettled.
She said that TAKDO fully supports the ongoing people's movement spearheaded by the JFD .
