Imphal, August 18 2026:
Jeetendra Ningomba, convenor of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD), has alleged that some Government officials attempted to attend a training programme for census enumerators and supervisors under the pretext of attending religious programmes.
Describing the move as unfortunate, he said that census-related works had commenced yesterday with the launch of the self-enumeration facility.
Saying that the JFD has been urging the Government to defer the census-related activities until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated, he added that the Government, however, has been disregarding the demand.
Extending gratitude to those who support the 48-hour general strike called by the JFD, he said that conducting the census without identifying illegal immigrants could bring significant changes to the political and economic landscape of the State.
Census would be followed by delimitation so it is essential to identify illegal immigrants first, he added.
