7 PLA cadres involved in killing of non-locals arrested

Imphal, August 14 2022:
A combined team of Thoubal district police commando, 16 Assam Rifles and 4 Assam Rifles arrested 7 cadres of the proscribed People's Liberation Army (PLA) for their alleged involvement in the killing of two non-locals, along with weapons.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Chingakham Basanta alias Khambaton (38) s/o Ningthemba of Andro Khuma Nungyumbi; Moirangthem Jitesh (22) s/o M Sanjit of Kakching Ningthou Leikai; Konjengbam Rbmeo (28) s/o Raghu of Konjengbam Maning Leikai, presently residing at Awang Sekmai Koujengleima; Phanjoubam Rabi alias Luwangngamba (26) s/o Kula of Andro Labaojam Ching Leikai; Salam Mangijao (55) s/o (L) Tombi of Kakching Wairi Salam Leikai; Naorem Manoj (23) s/o Nobin of Luker Mayai Leikai and Samurailatpam Akash alias Muston Sharma (19) s/o Rajeshwar of Kakching Wairi Saban Bamon Leikai.
The combined team seized one 9mm pistol with two magazines, one 9mm Beretta with magazine, 35 live rounds of 9mm and two hand grenades.
Parading the arrested cadres in front of media persons on Sunday, Thoubal SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam confided that a reliable input was received from 4 AR on August 13 at around 8.30 am that some PLA cadres, under the instruction of the outfit's self-styled lieutenant colonel Rishikanta, were planning to attack security forces with bombs to sabotage the Independence Day celebration.
Based on the input, a combined team of Thoubal District Police Commandos, 16 AR and 4 AR carried out a search operation in Yairipok Bazaar area.
The combined team searched for the bombs in different places of Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching districts for an entire day.
During the operation, the 7 PLA cadteS were arrested with the weapons.
The combined team also arrested a minor in conflict with law, who has been later handed over to the designated child welfare police officer of Yairipok PS, the SP informed.
On questioning, the 7 cadres revealed they were instructed by the outfit's self-styled lieutenant colonel Rishikanta to carry out attacks on nori-locals residing in the valley districts.
They also revealed that they were behind the murder of a non-local in Kakching on June 23 and the killing of another non-local in Andro Huikap on July 8 .
Both the arrested cadres and the seized weapons have been handed over to Yairipok PS.
The PS has registered a case in this regard and further investigation is underway, SP Jogeshchandra conveyed.
