Malemnganba, Maheshwari win titles at State badminton championship

Hemam Malemnganba Singh (BDBA) was crowned winner of the men's singles event while Kshetrimayum Maheshwari Devi (IEDBA) won the women's singles event of the 66th State Open Badminton Championship 2022 as the seven-day competition wrapped up on Sunday.
Hemam Malemnganba walked away with the men's singles title after injury forced Bidyasagar Salam (IWDBA) to retire during their title match at MBA Indoor Stadium, DM College Campus.
In the women's event, Kshetrimayum Maheshwari had little trouble beating her IWDBA opponent Vilinda Huidrom 21-14, 21-14 in their summit clash.
The pair of Khwairakpam Manjit Singh and Konthoujam Dingku Singh produced a dominant 21-8, 21-15 win over Haobijam Rohenkumar Singh and Rajkumar Alen Singh to seal the men's doubles crown.
In the U19 boys' singles final, Hemam Malemnganba Singh defeated Sirzeet Moirangthem 21-16, 21-19 while Haobijam Rohenkumar and Rajkumar Alen combined to win the U19 boys doubles event.
The pair fought back from a set down to outperform Borish Salam and Kasparov Ahanthem 20 22, 21-16, 21-16 .
On the other hand, Leonie Tayenjam got the better of Konsam Gunjan 24-22, 21-19 in the U15 girls' singles final.
The closing day also saw pairs of Khawirakpam Amarjit and Rishav Ngangom (U15 boys' doubles), Borish Salam and Khangembam Senlina (U-17 mixed doubles), Thokchom Hursh and Konsam Gunjan Devi (U15 mixed doubles), and Borish Salam and Brikson Longjam (U17 boys' doubles) all emerge winners in their respective final matches.
