Imphal, August 14 2022:
Even though India is going to celebrate 75 years of its independence on August 15, around 4/5 lakh people of Manipur are yet to be independent and enjoy full freedom of being citizens of a democratic country in the real sense, stated Shiv Sena Manipur unit vice president M Tikendra Singh.
Addressing media persons at its Babupara office here on Sunday, M Tikendra said that around 4/5 lakh people of Thoubal and Kakching districts are yet to be independent when people across the country are going to celebrate 75th year of India's independence.
People of eight assembly constituencies under the two districts have got the voting right but still barred from contesting in the parliamentary elections, he pointed out, and urged the government to do the needful for ensuring full freedom to the people of the two districts.
According to M Tikendra, total geographical area of Manipur left by forefathers of the land is 22.327 square kilometre and 35 different communities are settling in the land since time immemorial.
However, some selfish minded communities are trying to break apart Manipur and this indeed is condemnable.
Different communities are settling peacefully in valley area which comprises only 10 percent of the total geographical area of the state but some selfish communities are imposing bandh and blockades periodically along the highways thereby causing inconvenience to the entire people, he lamented and urged all concerned not to call bandh/blockade but opt for democratic form of agitations while pressing their demands.
Regarding the upcoming ADC and municipal council elections, M Tikendra said that the party will field candidates for which state unit president M Tombi has gone to Mumbai to take approval from the central leaders of the party.
