Imphal, July 31 2013:
The Indian Government after deceitfully giving away Kabow Valley of Manipur to Myanmar is yet again trying to give away a large portion of the State to the neighbouring country.
But this could not be allowed to happen at any cost, JD (U) has exclaimed.
Addressing media persons at its office at Babupara here today, N Tombi, President, JD (U), Manipur Pradesh, charged the Congress Governments both at the Centre and the State with complete failure in all aspects.
"Uptil today, the Congress Government has been carrying works that hurt the sentiments of the people directly or indirectly", Tombi asserted.
He recalled that Baleshwar Prashad, who was appointed as the Commissioner of Manipur to look into the matters of the State by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, came to Manipur on March 28, 1953 and had a secret meeting with the Prime Minister of Myanmar following which Kabow Valley of Manipur was given away to Myanmar and India took hold of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The handing over of Kabow Valley, which is a very productive area to Myanmar, created a hue and cry among the people of the State and now again the Government of India is trying to give away a large portion of the State's territory including Govajang and Yangoupokpi to Myanmar.
This is not acceptable under any circumstances and JD (U) takes the matter very seriously, Tombi said.
He went on to point out that it is not proper to erect border fencing right in the middle of various villages of Manipur.
The State cannot remain silent over the issue and the Government of India should remember that anything unwanted can happen out of the prevailing situation.
The border dispute is an international issue and the non-Congress Political parties of the State will be conducting a meeting in this regard and take up appropriate measures to protect the territory of Manipur, he informed.
