Imphal, July 31 2013:
NEET-UG selected candidates today staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat community hall expressing dissatisfaction over being kept in uncertainty regarding their admission to MBBS/BDS course.
An NEET-UG selected candidate, who was taking part at the protest, said that it is too late to hold State PMT as sessions for this year's MBBS/BDS course in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is to be started from August 1 .
Questioning why the State Cabinet is not being able to translate its decision into action, the candidate queried whether the decision taken by the State Cabinet to admit students based on NEET-UG merit list was not a State policy.
He observed that frequent change in Cabinet decision would dilute the image of the State Government.
Urging the Government to hold counselling for NEET-UG candidates to pave way for admission to MBBS/BDS course at the earliest, he also urged the Government not to give unnecessary dilemma to NEET-UG selected candidates.
Maintaining that it seems that the State Government does not understand the Supreme Court ruling of July 18, he said that the decree clearly mentioned that those candidates who have been acknowledged to take part in counselling and granted admission through NEET-UG merit list would be exempted from the purview of the latest ruling.
He further said that the State Government must also find out the reason why many States have not conducted its respective PMTs even after the Supreme Court ruling.
Saying that RIMS is set to commence this year's MBBS/BDS course with 40 students from different States, he pointed out that further delay in conducting counselling would jeopardise the academic career of many candidates.
