Sit in protest in Ukhrul

Contrary to the long standing demand of Pettigrew College students for providing adequate teaching staff to the college, three Science lecturers have been transferred from the college prompting the students prompting to stage a sit-in protest today.
Students of Pettigrew College, Ukhrul staged the sit-in protest at the college gate demanding revocation of the order.
Placards that read as 'shame on Govt system of education,' 'we demand staying of transferred teachers,' 'why three Physics teachers are transferred,' etc.
While speaking to the media, the student leaders said they would continue with their agitation until their demand for staying of transferred lecturers are fulfilled and sufficient lecturers are provided to the college within the end of the academic session.
They also demanded demolition of the newly constructed auditorium for not following UGC guidelines.
Meanwhile, when a team of Ukhrul Students' Union (Hunpung Katamnao Long) went to the college to ascertain the matter, the college authority confided that three lecturers were transferred during the current academic session.
Presently the college has 12 departments and 43 lecturers.
Among them, only 13 are regular while the rest are contract and guest lecturers.
Geography Department was opened in 2010 but no lecturer has been appointed yet.
No post has been sanctioned for Education and Sociology till date.
The college building, that was initially constructed for ADC office, has become congested.
The students of the college have highlighted the matter to the concerned authority time and again.
