Imphal, March 31 2018:
The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (All Liangmai Naga Students' Union) today said that it endorses and welcomes the decision of the Tatar Hoho of the NSCN-IM for having rectified the names of Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei tribes in the list of the Naga tribes.
The LNKR while terming the decision of the NSCN-IM as a wise one, appreciated the Naga outfit for "fulfilling the aspiration of the Liangmai people".
According to LNKR, earlier, Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei tribes were represented by "Zeliangrong organisation" in Naga Hoho or in other Naga fora and various tribal fora "but now, the Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei will be represented in the Naga fora and other tribal fora separately".
The LNKR said that the Liangmai people are grateful to the NSCN-IM leadership for "their wisdom and true spirit".
The LNKR said that it fully supports the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks and prayed for an early and amicable solution.
The LNKR added that it reaffirms and endorses the decision of Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) disassociating from Zeliangrong organizations and urged the Liangmai people to refrain from participating in any meeting or program organised by Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Union.
Striking a similar stand, the Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD) said today that it welcomes the decision of the Tatar Hoho of NSCN-IM to enlist Rongmei as one of the tribes of the Nagas.
"Till this latest amendment the Rongmei, the Liangmai and the Zeme have been represented by Zeliangrong organizations in social & tribal fora including the various Naga fora.
With this amendment the competent body of the Rongmeis will now represent the Rongmei people in every Naga forum.
NSCN/GPRN has decided the matter as per the wish of the Rongmei people to recognize them separately and the Rongmei people are grateful to the NSCN/GPRN leadership for adressing the issue," the RCPD stated.
According to the Rongmei body based in New DElhi, Rongmei as a tribe has every right to be recognized, demand and assert their identities and rights.
"The aspirations of the Rongmei people can no longer be suppressed.
The Rongmei people fully support the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks and pray for early solution.
The Rongmeis have been part of the Naga freedom movement since its inception.
Many Rongmeis have laid down their lives for the cause of the Nagas.
Rongmei legends Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu had fought for the rights of the Nagas.
RCPD wishes the collective leadership a long and blessed life," it added.
