Myanmar, India to tighten grip on drug trafficking

The quarterly meeting between Myanmar and India to discuss the problem of cross border drug trafficking was held at the conference hall of Moreh Trade Centre here today during which Myanmarese delegations revealed out the identities of Indian drug lords as those disclosed by those who are in the jails in connection with drug cases.
The meeting began from 10 am onwards.
The Myanmarese delegation was led by Lt Col Khin Maung Thaw, Superintendent of District Police Force.
Other members in the delegation included U Myint Shwe, Deputy Director of Immigration Department; Thun Tun Aung, Superintendent of Custom Department; Maj Khin Zaw, Township Police Officer, Cap Soe Naing, Superintendent, AN (Spl), TF, Tamu; Capt Aung Than, Officer in-charge, Special Branch and Maung Maung Latt, Interpreter.

The Indian delegation comprised KV Robinson Gangte, Superintendent, NCB; L Sumte, Superintendent, Custom Prevention Force, Moreh; BK Limbu, IO NCB; Bikramjit Singh, OC NCB; Akbar, OC second in-charge, Moreh Police Station and one Major from 9 Assam Rifles.
Myanmar, India to tighten grip on drug trafficking During the meeting, the two sides acknowledged the need for recording proper details of the drug traffickers including their names, places of residents, etc at the time of their arrest to avoid the difficulty experienced in trying to find out the family members and relatives of a drug trafficker lodged in Sajiwa Jail when he passed away from an illness at JN Hospital recently.
The two sides also admitted the need for frequent communications to give a firm hand on handling cross border drug trafficking.
Most importantly, the Myanmarese delegation brought out a list of the names of the Indians who being are lodged in various jails in connection with drug cases as well as the names of the drug owners revealed during questioning of the arrested drug traffickers.
The next quarterly meeting is scheduled to be held at Tamu in Myanmar on December 10 .
