Ukhrul, September 19 2013:
Transporters have to bear with the persistent road depression along the National Highway 150 at Marem village for a longer period as the authorities are yet to find ways for alternative route.
On enquiring into the process for alternative route for the sinking portion of the road at Marem village, BRTF authorities said that a proposal has been submitted to Principal Secretary (Work) Ram Muivah to process the land acquisition to construct a stretch of new route through Marem village.
A BRTF official stated that there are some difficulties in acquiring land and the work process has been entrusted to relevant state department.
Marem village, it informed, wants a playground in exchange for land where an alternative route has to be constructed.
However, BRTF said that the organisation has ''no fund available to take up such project' .
The sinking area along the NH 150 at Marem village, which is situated about 60-km from Ukhrul headquarters, has been facing this problem every monsoon.
The official also stated that the road condition of NH 150 is not fit to bear heavy-laden goods trucks, and added that frequent movement of these vehicles has caused more damages.
The BRTF maintained the transporters always carry loads to the tune of 15 tonnes which is way beyond the standard capacity for this type of road.
Meanwhile, Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) has proposed that a bridge may be constructed over the 200-meter sinking area.
''The sinking stretch of road is getting deeper and would be rendered not motorable in near future,'' RKL secretary said.
RKL urged the concerned authorities for early measure to counter the prolonged problem along Ukhrul-Jessami road.
