Imphal, September 19 2013:
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has strongly condemned the alleged excessive actions of the Army personnel posted at Lamdangmei village for illegal detention, harassment and torture meted out to two innocent civilians.
According to a statement issued by the general secretary of ZYF (AMN), Subash Kamei, two civilians namely Tanthailung Malangmei (25) s/o Gaijanglung and Phungangam Malangmei (26) s/o Meihonchung Malangmei of Bitiang (Laphok) village under Longmai (Noney) PS were illegally detained and tortured by the Army personnel.
The statement said the two innocent civilians were abducted at about 6.30 pm on their way back home after attending thanks giving programme on Aug 31 at Longmai Town Baptist Church.
They were released only on September 2 around 10 am after detaining them without informing or reporting or filing FIR to the nearest police station as per laws.
The family members came to know about their detention only when their parents went down to Longmai (Noney) and enquired their whereabouts.
The two civilians were put to electric shock besides being severely beaten up.
The army took the two innocent civilians to their camp unit hospital located at Longmai (Noney) and gave them medical treatment following complaint of pain on their body and foot.
The army strictly warned not to disclose or divulge the incident to any body as such the two innocent civilians fearing for their safety and security concealed the matter for the last many days, the ZYF statement said.
"Such acts of atrocities of the army has created fear psychosis to the general public which would only distance away from the public co-operation and support, therefore, the investigation of the higher authority in this regard is strongly demanded so as to avoid recurrence of such incident in future," the ZYF stated.
It warned that the youth body would launch democratic form of agitation unless investigation by higher authority is done for the sake of justice.
