Imphal, September 19 2013:
The JAC constituted in connection with the controversial death of Aheibam (O) Bijeta at RIMS during child delivery has called an indefinite general strike from September 22 all over the State.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, JAC secretary Lourembam Tiken said that they would impose an indefinite general strike if the State Government does not take necessary action within the next three days against the concerned doctors in such a manner that the case of Bijeta is not repeated with any other women in future.
He alleged that Bijeta and her unborn child died because of negligence on the part of doctors attending to Bijeta.
The JAC has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam urging to take necessary punitive actions against the concerned doctors.
Copies of the same memorandum have also been submitted to the Health Minister, Lamsang AC MLA, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Health) and RIMS Medical Superintendent, Tiken said.
The memorandum alleged that RIMS has become a graveyard for poor and common people, particularly women and children.
It pointed out that Janani Shisu Suraksha scheme is yet to be implemented in RIMS.
There are reports that majority of doctors working in RIMS work with more vigour and interest at private hospitals/clinics in contravention of medical ethics.
The memorandum questioned who would held responsible for administering anaesthesia to patients and under whose advice the drug was administered.
It went on to question whether Dr Usharani was given the task of performing operation on Bijeta by Dr Jitendra if Dr Usharani's clarification that Bijeta was not her concern was true.
Notably, 25 year old Bijeta w/o Sanatomba of Lamsang Keithel died during child delivery at RIMS on September 13 .
