'Rs 3 cr needed for education in budget'

MLA Dr I Ibohalbi has stressed on the need for allotting some Rs 3 crore in the State budget for all round development of Government educational institutions on Monday.
Dr Ibohalbi was attending as chief guest at the closing function of a three-day long book fair-cum-exhibition at Oinam High School organised by Bishnupur District, RMSA.
He said the Manipur Government has allotted Rs 1.04 crore in the State budget this year for education and expressed his desire to increase the amount by Rs 3 crore.
The MLA said the allotted amount covers all Primary Schools, Upper Primary Schools, High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools and colleges.
He said the amount is also meant for ZEOs, Education (S) Department, Education (Y) Department, SCERT, BOSEM and COSEM.
Out of the amount, nearly Rs 800 crore will be spent in paying salaries to the employees of these departments, he pointed out.
The function was also attended by ZEO Zone-IV Kh Yaima and DDO, Bishnupur T Prameshwor as president and guest of honour respectively.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of debating, quiz competitions and science exhibition at the event.
