Public meeting on NRDWS week

As part of the National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Week, a public meeting was organised by the District water and Sanitation Committee, Imphal West and Village Water and Sanitation Committee, Ngairiyambam at Ibudhou Pakhang Shanglen, Ngariyambam.
The meeting was attended by Mayanglangjing Zilla Parishad member Konthoujam Ongbi Suniti, Mayanglangbam Damu, AE, PHE, Imphal West division, senior citizen of Ngariyambam Sapam Dhananjoy as the presidium members.
The meeting resolved to avail the benefits of low-cost construction of toilets to the remaining beneficiaries as continuance of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
It also resolved to keep the surrounding area of Ngariyambam neat and tidy.
Speaking at the meeting, M Damu said that the Government of India launched the Central Rural Sanitation Programme in 1990 with an objective to spread awareness on cleanliness and sanitation.
However, due to lack of people's participation, the programme failed to yield extensive and positive impact.
After that, the Government launched another programme in 2012 known as Total Sanitation Campaign.
On October 2, 2014, BJP-led Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi while observing Gandhi Jayanti launched the Swachh Bharat Mission with an aim to keep the country clean, added Damu.
Topics like safe drinking water, cleanliness and hygiene were also elaborately discussed during the meeting.
