Associations suspend bandh

The proposed 24 hours bandh called by Naga Chiefs' Association, Chandel district and Kuki Chiefs' Association, Tengnoupal district from February 21 midnight in the two districts and alongtheNationalHighway 102 has been suspended.
The associations had called the bandh against the State Government's failure to release pending wages for NREGA 2016-17.Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, secretary of Kuki Chiefs' Association, TM Holkhokhai Haokip conveyed that the bandh was called off in view of the ongoing Class X and XII examinations conducted by BSEM and COHSEM respectively.
He said that the Government had earlier assured to look into the matter and do the needful but no steps have been taken up till date to address the grievances of the beneficiaries.
He informed that wages for NREGA 2016-17 are still pending for several days in five blocks of Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
He cautioned that the bandh would be resumed in case the Government fails to disburse the pending wages to the respective beneficiaries of the blocks by the end of Class X examination.
