Imphal, December 14 2014:
As history cannot be eliminated, the attempt to place the sacred Umang Lais under Govindajee Temple Board by passing a resolution in the State Assembly should be invalidated, Samuel Risom, MLA 44-Ukhrul Constituency has stated.
Talking to this daily, MLA Samuel Risom pointed out that laws which could be changed are enacted by human beings, but history cannot be changed or eliminated.
Therefore, Umang Lai which shares an indispensable relationship with the history of the State should not be impoverished by trying to place under Govindajee Temple Board.

He reiterated that denizens of Ukhrul and Hungpung had staged sit-in-protests in condemnation of the government's unwarranted decision.
Maintaining that Meitei king and Hungpung king (headman) shared a close relationship since time immemorial, the MLA asserted that the cordial relationship between Meitei king and Hungpung king is directly associated with relationship between hills and valley people.
People belonging to different communities have been living together in harmony.
Each community has its own religion, rituals and customs.
Umang Lai is an indispensable part of Meitei community.
Any attempt made to place it under Govindajee Temple Board should be termed as invalidated, he added.
