Imphal, October 14 2014:
The last public meeting of INC candidate Elangbam Dwijamani for the upcoming bye-election of 38-Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency was held at Hiyanglam Lai Panganba Keithel today.
Speaking at the election campaign meeting, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that Dwijamani has already started serving people in the previous term.
This bye-election would give him another chance to serve the people and also fulfill his unaccomplished tasks of the previous term.
Commending the works done by Dwijamani as the MLA of Hiyanglam A/C in the previous term, Ibobi said that Dwijamani was instrumental in setting up of two police stations in Hiyanglam A/C besides blacktopping of roads and construction of several community halls.
Taking a jibe at the State BJP President Thounaojam Chaoba, Chief Minister Ibobi said that no one believes in Chaoba's words.
His claim for giving Rs.5000 each to the people at the time of opening bank accounts was totally impossible, and he did not mention clearly whether that amount would be given as loan or financed by the BJP.
He asked if anybody from Chaoba's Nambol A/C has got that amount while opening the bank account.
Ibobi further appealed to the people to support the INC and cast their valuable votes to Dwijamani.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the right time has come for Thounaojam Chaoba to quit politics.
All these while, he has been lying that the Congress Government has done nothing for the people.
However, the people are quite aware of the works done by the Congress Government.
The Kangla was handed to the people of Manipur during the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India.
Various development projects in the State were also inaugurated by Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress has been in power in the State for the last 12 years with trust and support from the people.
The BJP could not ruin the goodness of Congress Party.
Mere publicity stunts through some actors and singers would not help the BJP much in this election.
Earlier, BJP leader and Bollywood actress Hema Malini came to Manipur to woo the voters during the 10th Manipur Assembly Election, but the dream girl's charm failed to work, Gaikhangam asserted.
Several other Congress Ministers, MLAs and workers also attended the public meeting and campaigned for Elangbam Dwijamani.
