UCM, AMUCO join hand with Tangkhul bodies in denouncing Ukhrul incident

In protest against the August 30 Ukhrul incident in which two civilians namely Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi were killed and several others left injured in police firing, several organizations jointly staged a sit-in-protest cum public meeting at Tangkhul Baptist Church, Dewlahlane here today.
Showing their solidarity to the victims of police firing and lending their voice to the demand for withdrawal of prohibitory order imposed under Section 144 of CrPC enforced in UKhrul district, leaders of United Committee Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) also took part in the protest demonstration organised jointly by Tangkhul People's Organisation (TPO), Imphal; Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI), and Imphal Tangkhul Sinao Long (ITSL) in front of Tangkhul Baptist Church.

Addressing the gathering, Y Nabachandra, president of UCM, said that it will be unfair to assume that the Committee is against the Naga people but the truth is that the Committee has been working for safeguarding territorial integrity of the State.
While condemning the Ukhrul incident which he termed as fallout of failure on part of the government to tackle the situation on day of the incident, the UCM President, however, maintained that the ongoing indefinite bandh imposed by UNC is not the right step as it will affect both people of hills and valley districts.
Tongpu Kipgen, president of All Tribal Chief Forum Manipur, said that it is high time to establish confidence amongst the people of hills and valley for maintaining peace and tranquility in the State and added that the government should not come up with any step that could create rift amongst the hills and valley people.
He also contended that the Ukhrul incident occurred due to failure of security forces to control the protesters on that day.
Ph Devan Sharma, VP of AMUCO, said that people belonging to different communities should extend help to each other at the time of need and crisis.
Only then peace and harmony will prevail in the State.
