Imphal, May 28 2014:
In a move to replace its president Th Chaoba, a team of the BJP Manipur unit led by three former presidents of the party is now camping in New Delhi to meet more national leaders of the party.
The move has highlighted a long-unexposed conflict within the party's organization over the post of President.
Former presidents of the BJP State unit, M Bhorot, H Borobabu and S Shantikumar accompanied by some other leaders of the party have been camping at the national capital for the last few days awaiting a formal nod from the party's national leadership to oust Chaoba.
Sources said Wednesday that the State BJP team met some of the national leaders yesterday and urged them to replace Chaoba for his wrong policy concerning distribution of party tickets to candidates for the recent Lok Sabha polls without consulting senior leaders of the State unit.
At the meeting, the anti-Chaoba team also told the national leaders that the State BJP suffered defeats in both the Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies because of the dictatorial policy of its president, they said.
During the meeting, the national BJP leaders assured the team that a clear-cut solution to the issue would be brought soon, the sources further said.
The anti-Chaoba group of the State BJP has said it would meet more national leaders, and that it would not return to the State until the issue is resolved with the national leadership.
On the other hand, another group of the State BJP led by its president Th.Chaoba is also staying in New Delhi.
This pro-Chaoba group has been in the national capital after attending the recent swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi.
Informing that the present tenure of Chaoba ends in December next year, sources in the group said the efforts of replacing Chaoba will not be possible now since he will have to hold the post till the completion of his tenure.
However, the group said steps for ending the standoff are expected from the party's national leadership at the earliest.
It may be noted here that on May 23, Spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh Adhikarimayum Sarda and president of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha, Manipur chapter O Malesh have vehemently denied media report on leadership crisis in the party as just speculation, asserting that there was no crisis within the party for removal of Chaoba from the post of State unit BJP president.
