Imphal, May 28 2014:
As sus-pected the skeletal remains be- lieved to be that of two missing cadres of United Revolutionary Front (URF) have been found buried in the outfit's designated camp today.
URF is a party to the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the government.
Even though the outfit's designated camp is located inside the sprawling complex of the erstwhile Manipur Spinning Mill, at Loitang Khunou where a company of a central security force is also located, an army source said that the designated camp is an entirely different facility with a police sub-inspector and nine constables deployed at the same location to oversee security aspects of the surrendred insurgent cadres.
The designated camp falls under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs and has nothing to do with the security force unit with the exception that the latter's camp is in close vicinity, maintained the source.
On May 6, following allegations regarding the alleged killing of two cadres of URF) inside the URF designated camp and their corpses buried there, a search operation was conducted for the bodies.
Nearly a month later today, the police again carried out the search operation and found the skeletal remains said to be that of the two URF cadres.
The breakthrough came following the arrest of one of its cadres identified Irengbam Gulapi alias Meitei of Kontha Ahallup under Heingang police station this morning from his home by the police.
Gulapi revealed details of the two missing URF cadres during the police interrogation.
Later at around 4.30 pm, the police team led by Additional SP (Imphal West district) in-charge of Law and Order Birbabu rushed to the URF designated camp and broke the cemented structure inside the store-room of the URF and found the skeletal remains.
It may be recalled here that on March 19, 2014, a complaint was lodged at Sekmai police station by the URF regarding missing of the two URF cadres.
The two URF cadres who reportedly went missing on March 18 are Irengbam Bode alias Washington (35) s/o (L) Biren of Awang Khunou, Imphal West district and Pukhrambam Somorjit (35) s/o Lakshman of Waheng Khuman under Nambol police station, Bishnupur district.
Further, regarding the missing of Bode, his wife, Sunita suspicious of her husband being murdered and buried inside the URF camp had complained to Sekmai police on April 30 last month to trace her husband's body.
based on the complaint, Sekmai police had conducted search operation inside the designated camp after due permission obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the State Home Department and the District Magistrate, Imphal West.
The search operation led by Additional SP (LO) of Imphal East, L Birbabu and was also joined by SDPO Lamphel, Wungpam Kasar and a team led by Sekmai police Officer In-charge (OC) .
On that day, not finding any trace of the corpses inside the camp, the forensic expert team also continued the search by digging the earth outside the wall of the camp located in the northern side.
Four camouflaged trousers believed to belong to the URF cadres of the camp were recovered lying in the drain adjacent to the campus wall about 20 metres apart to each.
In a suspicious manner, holes dug out from earth to enable passage to and fro from beneath the wall of the camp were also found during the search operation.
Meanwhile, reports say only 15 cadres of the URF were present at the designated this evening while its chairman Kh Gopeshor alias Khelen alias Lanheiba of Keirenphabi under Moirang police station is out of station.
The 15 cadres have been detained by the police, said the reports.
The camp was set up to house 60 URF cadres.
