Imphal, May 28 2014:
Faculty members and students of Department of Earth Sciences of Manipur University have expressed concern over cutting down of trees inside the varsity campus.
Engineering Section of the University today cut down some full grown tress near Department of Earth Sciences.
Talking to The Sangai Express, a faculty member said that it is a must to maintain the University campus green.
As such, removing full grown trees for any reason is undesirable at a time when global warming and environment degradation has become an issue.
Department of Earth Sciences HOD Soibam Ibotombi said that he was shocked on seeing cutting down of full grown tress near his Department.
Ibotombi added that officials of Engineering Department told him that the tress were removed as it touched the electric wires.
He informed the matter to the University Registrar but no action was initiated, Ibotombi added.
A student of the Department said that the officials could cut the branches instead of pulling down the whole full grown tress.
