Imphal, May 28 2014:
On ac-count of several loopholes and lapses at the key police check point of Pallel, there is a strong possibility of smuggling out many contraband substances to Myanmar through Moreh.
A well-placed source informed that all vehicles co- ming from either direction are check meticulously at Pallel when the issue of trafficking drugs was a hot topic in the State.
Moreover, intelligence activities were also very high.
But nowadays intelligence activities have come down to nil and there are many lapses in the checking mode.
As such, there is a strong possibility of vehicles carrying drug consignments moving past the check-post without being detected.
The recent seizure of drugs worth Rs 35 lakh by Lilong Police after raiding a house of one individual at Lilong Kaleikhong revealed that drug trafficking and smuggling have not ceased in the State.
In view of the law and or-der problems and health rela- ted issues caused by smuggling and abuse of drugs, the Govt need to sustain the ongoing anti-drug campaigns by civil organisations and volunteers at different localities, added the source.
