Probe into woman's death

Imphal, June 09 2021:
The state government has constituted a two-member committee to investigate into the cause of death of one L Kiranmala, who died on June 7 hours after receiving the Covid vaccine.
An order issued by deputy secretary of health and family welfare Yumnam Suraj Singh has notified that the enquiry committee shall establish the events relating to the Covid vaccination process adopted at PHC Sangaiyumpham and other related issues relevant to the enquiry.
It may be mentioned that Kiranmala (36), wife of L Sharat Singh of Khangabok Part I in Thoubal district was reported dead within hours of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine at PHC Sangaiyumpham.
A JAC formed in connection with the woman's death has demanded investigation into the incident and raised strong suspicion that the vaccination might be the cause of her demise.
As per the health department's order, senior regional director of ministry of Health and Family Welfare Dr L Ashananda and additional director of Health Services Dr Kh Shasheekumar Mangang are the members of the enquiry committee and they shall submit a report within 15 days without fail.
It also mentioned that the committee shall be at liberty to call the doctor/paramedical staff and officials of the Covid vaccination centre at PHC Sangaiyumpham and doctors and staff of the District Hospital, Thoubal for examination and recording their statements wherever necessary in connection with the enquiry.
