Imphal, June 09 2021:
Joint action Committee of NH-2 Expansion Affected Land Owners (Mantri Leikai, Khonghampat, Maharabi, Sekmai, Kanglatongbi, Tendongyang, Pheidinga) has urged the government to increase rate of homestead and agricultural land affected by the expansion of NH-2 .
In a release, JAC president M Ibomcha recalled that memorandums highlighting desire of the people were submitted to chief minister, minister concerned, DC Imphal West, Revenue Commissioner and MLAs concerned on April 29 .
However, the authorities failed to give a collective response in this regard and instead tried to acquire the land by taking undue advantage of the pandemic situation.
As such, the land owners felt apprehension over the government's actions, he contended.
Demanding to the government for increasing rate of homestead and agricultural lands of the affected villages, Ibomcha further appealed to give the value of private and state lands which are standing property in view of the changing times.
Moreover, special arrangement should be made for those who would be rendered landless due to the expansion and an arbitrator should be appointed at the earliest.
Ibomcha cautioned that the JAC is well prepared to launch intense form of democratic protests if the government fails to translate their demands into actions.
