Many condemn grenade attack at AMSU office

All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has strongly condemned the grenade attack at its head office located inside DM University campus, Imphal on Tuesday evening.
Addressing a press meet at its head office on Wednesday, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba said that the union was formed after the historic Hunger March of 1965.For decades, the union has been dedicating its services and activism for the welfare of the society and the future generation.
Grenade attack at the union's office is akin to an act against the student community as well as the Manipuri society, he said while terming it as a highly condemnable act of terrorism.
All the activities of the union are bound by its constitution and it has been making its identity and history through intervention in various social issues.
The union never compromises on its identity or is influenced by any third party.
The union's members are ever ready to even sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the society, he said while urging all concerned not to repeat such acts in future.
Chalamba also appealed to the government to investigate the attack and take up appropriate actions against those involved.
He then appealed to the people of the state to continue their support to the union while adding that it will continue to work for the state and student community.
AMSU executive members were also present at the press meet.
Several CSOs and student organisations also voiced strong condemnations against the grenade attack at the office of AMSU.
In a joint statement, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS termed the attack as a threat to the student community and demanded the government to take up necessary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
Stating that the student bodies have been playing major roles in various issues concerning the society, student community and the state as well, the five student bodies appealed to all concerned to refrain from repeating such acts in future.
North East Students' Organisation (NESO), a conglomerate of Khasi Students' Union (KSU), All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Garo Students' Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) also condemned the attack.
A statement jointly issued by NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa and secretary general Sinam Prakash said that the incident will not deter AMSU from its activities and NESO will continue to extend its support to the union for the welfare and protection of indigenous people of the state.
All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union, All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (Tammi-Chingmi), Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinasillon (EECHAL) have also condemned the incident while terming it as a challenge to the student community and the society.
