Besides disrupting movement of traffic along Imphal-Moreh stretch of National Highway-2 today by angry protesters who staged a roadblock at Lilong Chajing against the killing of a local club president by unidentified miscreants, the J AC formed in connection with the killing has announced a 14 hour Statewide bandh from 4am to 6pm of Nov 7 .
The bullet riddled body of Hawaibam Meghachandra (51) s/o Omar of Lilong Chajing under Singjamei PS in Imphal West district was found at the bank of Imphal River at Haoreibi Mayai Leikai yesterday morning around 5 .
Megha is the president of Mairenkhong Rising Club.
He is also engaged in some Govt contract works.
A JAC against the killing was formed yesterday during a public meeting held at Chajing.
A statement issued by the JAC Secretary, S Sarat Singh said the decision to impose the Statewide bandh tomorrow was reached during a public meeting held today at Lilong Keithel along with representatives of civil society organisations.
Essential services would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the JAC statement said.
The JAC imposed a roadblock at Lilong Chajing from 4 am till 4 pm today to demand justice.
The JAC convenor while talking to the media persons said Megha was seen talking on mobile phone near a water supply scheme near Imphal River around 6.30 pm of Nov 4.The next morning, his lifeless body riddled with bullets was found at the bank of the river.
He said the roadblock was imposed to demand immediate justice to the killing while pledging to intensify the agitation if the demand for justice is delayed.
At the same time, MLA of Langthabal AC, Karam Shyam vehemently condemned the killing of Meghachandra.
Addressing reporters, Karam Shyam said the State has become a sort of killing field while saying that all the 60 MLAs including himself should take the responsibility for the deteriorating law and order situation.
He further said that he along with the people should pursue justice in the matter.
Meghachandra left behind two sons, two daughters and his wife,
Premi.
The corpse is still at RIMS morgue.
