Ningol Chakkouba tragedy : Mom, son killed in mishap

Tragedy struck a family as a mother and her baby son died while the father and daughter sustained injury in a tragic road mishap that occurred yesterday in Thoubal district on their return journey to home after a Ningol Chakkouba celebration while a five year old boy was killed when an autorickshaw knocked him down.
According to police source, the incident occurred yesterday around 4 pm while the family of Mayanglambam Usharanjan of Kha-Naorem Leikai met an accident near Waithou Ushoipokpi Power transformer along Imphal-Moreh highway under Lilong PS in Thoubal district.
Mayanglambam Usharanjan, his wife Sangita (36), daughter Anita (4) and nine-month old son Abungo (Zingpin) were returning home from Thoubal Bamon Leikai after a Ningol Chakkouba feast when the Activa Scooter the family was travelling in was rammed by a Tata Truck.
The mother and her infant son died at the spot while the father and the daughter were rushed to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
The truck has been detained at Lilong PS while a case has also been registered for investigation.
The bodies of the mother-son were handed over to family after conducting a post mortem examination at JNIMS.
Meanwhile, a five-year old boy who was accompanying his mother for a Ningol Chakkouba celebration was killed when an autorickshaw hit him at Pangaltabi Chairen Lamkhai Thongkhong along Indo-Myanmar-Sugnu road under Sugnu PS in Thoubal district yesterday around 11.30am.Sapam Sanathoi (5) was accompanying his mother, Langlen to his maternal parents' residence at Pangaltabi.
The mother-son were travelling in a Tata Magic Van.
An auto-rickshaw coming in the opposite direction hit Sanathoi just a few distance away from his maternal parents' residence, and moments after he and his mother alighted from the vehicle.
The child died on the way to the hospital.
Before it hit Sanathoi, another child from Pangaltabi Makha Leikai was also hit by the auto-rickshaw.
He has been treated at Kakching Rural Hospital.
Police registered a case against the Auto-rickshaw.
The death body of Sanathoi was handed over to family members after a post mortem examination was conducted at JNIMS today.
Meanwhile, the Lilong Block Congress Committee has condoled the tragic demise of Sanjita and Abungo.
Saying that the spot where Sanjita and her son lost their lives was accident prone due to narrow road stretch, a statement issued by Lilong BCC Secretary (Adm), MK Shah urged the authority concerned to expand the stretch so as to prevent such incident in future.
