Teachers' body threatens stir

Informing that the proposed fast unto death agitation scheduled from today has been put off for some time following formal intimation from the State Government to conduct DPC for promotion of undergraduate and primary teachers to graduate post, Demand Committee for the Promotion/ Upgradation of Undergraduate/Primary Teachers to Graduate Post general secretary T Khogendra Singh declared that the Committee members will relaunch the said agitation if the Government does not take positive steps for the said DPC.
Speaking to newspersons at Wahengbam Leikai Junior High School premise today, Committee general secretary Khogendra said a copy of the Government notification issued on November 4 that the DPC for promotion would be held on November 18, 2013 has been received by the Committee.
As the Government notification issued by the Deputy Secretary (Edn/S) not only fixed the DPC date but also urged for calling off the agitation, the proposed fast unto death stir would be put off till the date for the DPC, said would resume the agitation if the Government of Manipur do not translate its assurance for conducting the DPC into action.
It is said that about 600 members of the Committee had been demanding necessary procedures for promotion and upgradation of undergraduate and primary teachers since 2007 .
Due to prolonged negligence of the teachers the Committee resorted to various forms of agitation including the decision for launching fast unto death agitation from today which has been eventually put off following the Government notification, added the general secretary.
