Irom Sharmila's cause supported

A function that marked completion of 13 years of Sharmila's hunger strike was organised at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha in Maharashtra on November 4 .
Dignitaries like Vice-Chancellor Dr Vibhuti Narayana Rai, Prof Krishna Kumar Singh, noted poet Prof Jaiprakash Dhumketu, former Manipur University faculty Prof Devraj Sharma and Sharmila's brother Irom Singhajit attended the function.
Prof Dhumketu while speaking at the function expressed his support to Sharmila's cause.
Lauding her extraordinary courage and determination, Prof Dhumketu expressed sadness over different forms of harassment and human rights violation being meted out to the people of the State.
Prof Devraj observed that repeal of AFSPA would not be possible by pressing it to politicians.
Prof Krishna Kumar Singha while speaking on Sharmila's poetic qualities presented some of her poetry at the function.
Irom Singhajit spoke on Sharmila's past struggles and present problems.
Mentioning Sharmila's slogan, 'My Struggle is My Message', Singhajit expressed belief that AFSPA would be repealed if people extend helping hand to Sharmila collectively.
Dr Vibhuti Narayana Rai said that the University has been pledging support to Sharmila's cause since past many years.
Apart from presentation of poetry dedicated to Sharmila, a play entitled, 'Santoolan Doot' written by Sanjeev Majdoor Jha and directed by Bhagwat Prasad Patel was also shown.
Later, a candlelight march was taken out up to Gandhi Hill.
Many social workers from Nagpur also came to Wardha to attend the function.
