Club President found murdered, NH-2 blocked in protest

Imphal, November 06 2013:
A bullet riddled body of a man was fished out from Imphal River at Haoreibi Mapa at around 5.30 am yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Hawaijam Meghachandra (50), s/o H Omor Singh of Lilong Chajing Meirangkhong Leikai.
He was the President of Meirangkhong Rising Club and also worked as a small-time contractor.
According to family members, Meghachandra was present at the local club ground till late evening on November 4 .
He was last seen having a long telephonic conservation over his mobile phone.
He did not return home that night.

The family members assumed that he might be attending the funeral ceremony of a person from the locality who died that night.
The bullet riddled body of Meghachandra was fished out from Imphal River at Haoreibi Mapa the following morning.
His fingers were also found severely injured.
Meanwhile, the irate locals of Lilong Chajing blocked Imphal-Moreh Road (NH-2) at several places from Lilong Chajing to Lilong Bazar since today morning.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the murder of Hawaijam Meghachandra also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the culprits to be arrested within a short time.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting convened by the JAC along with other civil organisations like AMUCO, UCM, IPSA, MPCO, etc at Lilong Keithel in the evening today has decided to call a 14-hour Manipur bandh with effect from 4 am to 6 pm tomorrow.
Religious functions, medical and students would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Setting November 7 as the deadline to the Government for bringing out the culprits, the joint statement has also decided to intensify the ongoing agitation in case the Government fails to do so.
