CCTV cams to scan festival areas

As part of the security measures for the November 21-30 Manipur Sangai Tourism Festival a high level security meeting convened today has decided to install CCTV (close circuit television) cameras for round the clock monitoring of the festival areas.
The meeting presided over by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and held at his office chamber this morning was also attended by DGP MK Das, Principal Secretary (Industries) O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu, as well as DCs and SPs of Imphal East and West districts.
Along with the decision to instal CCTV cameras inside as well as outside the festival venue at Hapta Kangjeibung in Palace Compound, the meeting also endorsed setting up a police control room within the festival venue.
According to an informed source, security officials present at the meeting recommended IGP (L&O-I) L Kailun as the over-all security in-charge for the said festival.
Later an official team led by the Chief Secretary assessed the festival's stall preparation works with PC Lawmkunga reportedly directing work agencies to ensure completion within November 18.He also directed that ticket booking counters supposed to be opened near the main entrance be relocated at another location.
Main organiser of the Festival, the State's Commerce and Industries Department is planning to put up 200 premium stalls and 300 standard stalls as well as 100 food stalls.
There will be 15 stalls for exclusive promotion of Thailand's culture and cuisines, and five stalls run by Myanmarese.
It is said that the festival's third day (Nov 23) would be reserved as Myanmar Day wherein Myanmar cultural troupes would showcase the international neighbour's art and cultural richness.
Chief Ministers of Myanmar's Saigang and Mandalay provinces are also expected to attend the Myanmar Day events.
Cultural troupes from Thailand as well as Indian States like Assam and Sikkim would also perform during that festival.
With regard to the commencement of international flight service in Tulihal Airport, another source informed that to and fro journey from Imphal and Mandalay would cost a traveller 200 US dollars.
