IMC Chairperson tenders resignation, Govt yet to accept

Imphal, January 08 2013:
Amidst intense lobbying for the post of Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) even at the level of Ministers and Congress MLAs, the incumbent Chairperson N Raghumani has tendered his resignation.
The resignation letter was submitted on January 5 and now it has reached the hands of the State Government, which is likely to accept the resignation letter within 10 days.
As soon as the acceptance from the State Government is receives, N Nimai would be selected as the new Chairperson of IMC, sources in IMC said.
It may be recalled that leveling various changes, a No Confidence Motion was moved by a section of the Councilors of IMC earlier against Chairperson N Raghumani.
The Chief Minister and the President of MPCC had called up those Councilors who moved the motion and made them to withdraw their motion and demand for appointing a new chief of the Council.
The incumbent Chairperson was even asked to resign from his post to which he declined claiming that the charges leveled against him were unreasonable.
Later on, an election for the post of Chairperson was conducted and N Raghumani was defeated by 2 votes by Councilor N Nimai.
Ever since, there has been intense lobbying by Minister and Congress MLAs to appoint their choices as the Chairperson.
At was at this juncture that the present Chairperson N Raghumani tendered his resignation on January 5 .
