Governor of Manipur Dr KK Paul has extended his greetings to the people of Manipur especially the Jain brethren on the sacred and auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, 2015 .
In a message, the Governor said Lord Mahavir, the founder of Jainism, was an apostle of peace and non-violence.
He showed mankind the way to salvation through love and compassion, mercy and forgiveness, the message said.
Dr KK Paul said Mahavir believed in simple life and taught renunciation of all materialistic elements to attain ultimate happiness.
"His teachings rise above the barriers of caste, creed or religion and His message of peaceful co-existence remains as true as ever," the Governor said in the message.
He urged, "On this day, the Lord was born, let us remember His teachings and re-dedicate ourselves to follow the spiritual and ethical path shown by Him for universal brotherhood and harmony" .
He also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has greeted the people of Manipur especially the Jain brothers and sister on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir on Wednesday.
CM Ibobi in his message to the people said Lord Mahavir was an apostle of truth and righteousness.
He said the teachings of Lord Mahavir 'inspire us' to inculcate the qualities of mercy, compassion, peace and brotherhood for the welfare of humankind.
"On this occasion, let us imbibe Lord Mahavir's teachings for promoting peace and enduring happiness of humanity," the message urged.
