Sit-in-protest staged

Women fish vendors of Thoubal Keithel staged a sit-in-protest today demanding suspension of Thoubal Municipal Council Chairperson Y Bijen at Thoubal Haokha for allegedly using abusive words and manhandling women vendors, reports our correspondent.
According to the demonstrators the Municipal Council Chairman along with police personnel, slyly shifted the fish vendors from their respective place yesterday night.
The Chairman then allegedly used improper and abusive words against women who protested the shifting.
This is the third time, the protesters alleged, that the Chairman has shifted the vendors since the inauguration of Thoubal Keithel.
The protester quoted the Chairman as stating that he does not care about the Chief Minister's order and that he would terminate the vendor permits of those protesting the shifting.
The protester have further alleged that the Chairman and his accompanying police personnel also launched an attack on the protesting women leading to the injury of two women namely S Chaobi Devi, 74 of Thoubal Sabaltongba and Ng Silla Devi, 50 of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai.
They further stated that they would continue with their protest until the demands are met.
Mention may be made, Thoubal Municipal Council have been temporarily shifting fish vendors to the southern block (Block D) of the Keithel from 6 am yesterday.
Police forces have now been deployed in the area to avoid further unrest.
